Eli Rezkallah

CREATES HIS IMAGINARY WORLD

Eli Rezkallah is a photographer, video-maker, visual artist and founder and director of Plastik Magazine and Plastik Studios. Born in Beirut, Eli Rezkallah began his career as a producer of fashion shows in 2004 and rapidly expanded into visual art, launching his own creative studio in 2007.

Rezkallah launched Plastik Magazine, the Middle East’s first visual art publication, in 2009. From the very first issue, Plastik quickly became a platform for talented young artists to showcase their work, and a way of sharing an uncompromising vision with the wider world.

Having grown up in an isolated oasis in a central Lebanon devastated by war, he was constantly surrounded by women who always put on a brave face and ignored the tense political and social situation of their country. His work is a visual representation of women and the lengths they go to to escape external reality and create their own. To conceal the fear they experience living in an environment threatened with destruction. Pure, impeccable beauty with grim melancholy and lethargy. His subjects, depicted with sharp deliberation and placed in surreal settings, appear as souls without imagination, lost in an imaginary world.

Rezkallah’s work has been exhibited in Bangkok, Beirut, Palm Beach, Paris and Singapore.
